National award recognition for Helston & the Lizard Works

This trail blazing project, co-ordinated by Inclusion Cornwall and led by Helston Town Council, has yet again been recognised at a national level – this time as a finalist for a prestigious Star Council Award, run by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC). Helston and the Lizard Works has been selected as one of the top 3 projects for Local Council Outstanding Project of the Year with the winner being announced on 19th October in Birmingham.

The project has achieved outstanding success as well as a sustainable formula which sees local businesses giving their time to inspire and support jobseekers and community projects allowing jobseekers the chance to get involved and to feel valued by contributing to the life and fabric of their community.

It’s not the first time Helston and Lizard Works has been recognised nationally, with Derek Thomas MP recently using the project in parliament as a leading example of an innovative organisation that provided meaningful, measurable and positive outcomes for its community.

Inclusion Cornwall Manager, Andrea Gilbert, commented: “We are delighted that the NALC have recognised the positive impact of this project and selected it as a finalist for a national Star Council award. It is a testament to the businesses, organisations and town council in Helston and the Lizard that this project has been held up at the highest level as a leading example of a community coming together to provide a solution for its jobseekers and wider community members.”
