Inclusion Cornwall Celebrates 20 Years

Inclusion Cornwall was established in 2004 and this year we celebrated 20 Years – we had hoped we would not be needed after five years but here we are still topical and critically needed. To celebrate our 20 years we asked our thousands of partners to nominate projects for an IC award. We were overwhelmed by the applications and could have given out double the number. We gave out eleven inclusion awards, one surprise award for a long standing officer and more recently steering group member and a winner of winners award. Our winners can be found below and the winners winner was Trelya.

We commenced the day with our celebration song written and performed by Ben Bowden.

Dave Meneer our host for the awards and Councillor Mike Thomas (Honorary Chair of IC) introduced the day and highlighted how we all walk taller for recognition.

Our awards were inspiring and covered outstanding work and passion in so many inclusion issues – heating costs, one to one support, autism, hearing loss, Pride, changing lives of young people, adaptive surfing, hospital discharge, menopause, foodbanks – the level of determination and commitment was magnificent.

Our keynote speaker Carolyn Webster – CEO at CLEAR Emotional Trauma & Therapy Specialists – Cornwall based charity with a vision for a community safe and free from abuse, with opportunity to flourish after trauma. Carolyn identified the work of IC over the 20 years but questioned if we were curious, were we courageous and do we care? Can we stop re-inventing wheels and look at the future in a new way – working for the bigger cause. Working together for Cornwall.
