Economic Inclusion
Worklessness is an issue in Cornwall, as elsewhere, with people lacking the skills to match the jobs available locally, and without the means to seek work elsewhere, or training. The distance from a person’s home to a potential place of work, training, or social activity can be an impossible barrier. If public transport is expensive or doesn’t go the right way, or a person has a disability that limits their mobility, then they can be stuck at home, and become isolated.
Inclusion Cornwall’s Activities
Inclusion Cornwall was established to co-ordinate the wide range of activities taking place in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to reduce worklessness and raise employment rates. It has brought together local projects, programmes and public services to establish a new way of partnership working. This includes trialling new services and new ways of delivering them, encouraging changes in organisational behaviour where this is a barrier to helping people. The aim of the strategy is to help more people to start work, stay in work and progress in work; helping them achieve their full employment potential.
The strategy is focused on achieving positive outcomes – for individuals, for communities, and for the economy of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Inclusion Cornwall offers support into work, from basic training courses, funding for equipment (eg for PPE required to start a job or training course) IT equipment and connectivity to training in basic IT skills so that people can apply for job online. Support is also offered to ensure that all eligible benefits are being claimed, and other financial support on offer is being used. We can also pay bus fares to job interviews or training, to assist people to change their situations
