Council Leader pledges Cornwall’s support for Syrian refugees

The Leader of Cornwall Council John Pollard has pledged Cornwall’s support for the refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war and says that the authority has been drawing up plans to ensure it is ready to offer help when the Government provides details on how and where refuges will be resettled.

Inclusion Cornwall will be supporting Cornwall Council with this work.  Inclusion Cornwall in September stated:-

“Inclusion Cornwall recognises the plight of refugees moving across Europe and believe this constitutes a humanitarian emergency. Over 5,000 people are believed to have lost their lives attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean in the last 18 months. This should trigger action, commitment and support.

We call upon Governments across Europe to develop migration and asylum policies which are forward-looking and firmly based on the principles of humanity, solidarity and respect for human rights.

Inclusion Cornwall pledges to support authorities within the United Kingdom and Europe to implement an humanitarian response.”
